Consumer Unit Upgrades
An outdated fuse board can put your home at risk and limit how safely your electrics operate.
Upgrading to a modern consumer unit improves protection, reduces the chance of electrical faults and brings your installation in line with current regulations.
We carry out consumer unit and fuse board upgrades in Fareham and throughout Hampshire.
Modern consumer units are designed to respond quickly to faults, helping protect people, wiring, and appliances.
If your fuse board still uses rewireable fuses or lacks modern safety devices, an upgrade is strongly recommended.

What Is a Consumer Unit Upgrade?
A consumer unit (sometimes called a fuse board) is the heart of your electrical system.
It controls and protects all circuits in your home. An upgrade involves removing the existing unit and installing a new one fitted with modern protective devices such as RCDs or RCBOs.
This ensures each circuit is properly protected and faults are isolated quickly, reducing disruption and improving overall safety.
Signs You May Need a Fuse Board Upgrade
You may benefit from a consumer unit upgrade if:
- Your fuse board uses old-style fuses
- There is no RCD or RCBO protection
- Circuits trip frequently
- You are rewiring or extending your home
- You are buying or selling a property
- An EICR has highlighted issues
Even if everything appears to be working, older fuse boards often fall short of today’s safety standards.
What to expect from a Consumer Unit Upgrade
Before any work begins, we check the existing wiring to make sure it’s suitable for connection to a new consumer unit.
Once confirmed, the old fuse board is safely removed and replaced with a modern consumer unit, with each circuit clearly labelled.
The installation is fully tested on completion and the correct electrical certification is provided for your records.
Most consumer unit upgrades are completed within a day. Power will need to be isolated during the work, but this is planned in advance and clearly explained beforehand.
We work neatly, keep disruption to a minimum and make sure everything is fully operational before leaving.
